First of all, I would like to say welcome to the Nex Artist blog! As our initial post, I thought it would be a good idea to explain what the Nex Artist music platform is and how it may benefit you as an artist or listener.
The Nex Artist platform was designed with two objectives in mind; to offer a new promotion service targeted toward upcoming/underground artists, and to provide listeners with an innovative and reliable discovery tool to help them discover new music. Currently, our platform is only available in the US and UK, but as it grows in popularity we will look to expand into other territories around the world.
The Nex Artist Web App
Our Web App is where artists manage their artist profile, upload tracks, and view real-time statistics from listener interactions on our mobile app. Artists can sign up for our platform at no cost using the Free Tier, which allows them to upload 2 tracks to showcase on our mobile app to listeners. There are additional subscription tiers available for artists wishing to increase their track upload and daily impressions quota. More information on subscription tiers and their imposed limits is available at the bottom of this blog post.
When setting up their artist profile, artists specify their artist name, country, profile picture, and optionally social media links to their Instagram/Facebook/Tiktok pages. This information is then used to generate their artist profile on our mobile app where they can be discovered by listeners.
As part of the track upload process, artists are required to fill in various details; track name, genre (top and sub-genre if known), BPM (beats per minute), and optionally the streaming platform links to the track on Spotify/Apple Music/SoundCloud. By providing an accurate sub-genre and BPM, listeners can reliably find niche tracks using our mobile app.
After the track details are completed, artists are required to define a 30-second snippet of the track to showcase on the mobile app to listeners. We recommend selecting a portion of the track with high energy such as a drop or chorus.
The statistics recorded from the Nex Artist mobile app provide useful insights to artists which help them evaluate their profile’s performance. Currently, the stats available for artists are:
- Impressions
- Profile Views
- Seconds Listened
- Instagram Links Clicked
- Facebook Links Clicked
- Tiktok Links Clicked
- Spotify Track Links Clicked
- Apple Music Track Links Clicked
- SoundCloud Track Links Clicked
Which are split into the following time periods to help evaluate growth over time:
- Today
- This Week
- This Month
- All Time
We are seeking to continuously improve the experience for artists on our Web App. If you would like to suggest a feature or report an issue, you can complete the feedback form which is available on the help page and can be accessed by clicking on your profile icon on the top right of the navigation bar.
The Nex Artist Mobile App
Our free mobile app is a music discovery tool that enables listeners, A&Rs, and labels to search our catalog of upcoming artists. The app is scheduled to launch on the Google Play and Apple App stores on January 9th, 2023.
Artist Search and Results
The artist search page has optional filters so listeners can specify the artist country, track top/sub-genre, and minimum/maximum BPM (beats per minute). Alternatively, the filters can be left as the default ‘ANY’ to expand the search to a wider variety of artists.
If there are results available for the specified criteria, once the search button is pressed, matched artists will be displayed in a randomised order with their most relevant 30-second track preview playing first. To navigate between tracks, listeners can either tap on the track they want to play or swipe up/down.
To “Like” and add the artist to their personal artist collection, listeners can swipe right on the card. On the contrary, to “Dislike” and remove the artist from future search results, listeners can swipe left. In each case, the next artist result will show and their first track preview will begin to auto-play.
Artist Collection
The artist collection is a listener’s personal history of liked artists, separated into three time periods:
- Today
- This Week
- This Month
From this page, listeners can use the search filters to find specific artists. Tapping on an artist’s picture will display their full artist profile.
Artist Profile
The artist profile is where listeners can re-play track previews and view links to the artist’s content on social media/streaming platforms.
To keep our platform safe and fun for everyone, artists can be reported for violating our guidelines by using the exclamation mark at the top right of the screen.
Subscription Tiers
For artists wishing to increase their track upload and daily impressions quota, there are various subscription tiers available. Subscription payments are processed securely by Stripe on a recurring monthly basis but can be canceled at any time from the profile page on the artist web app.
As of 28/12/2022, the subscription tiers that are available are:
- Free Tier – 2 Track Uploads / 10 Max Daily Impressions
- Bronze Tier (£2.45/month) – 3 Track Uploads / 50 Max Daily Impressions
- Silver Tier (£4.95/month) – 4 Track Uploads / 150 Max Daily Impressions
- Gold Tier (£9.95/month) – 5 Track Uploads / 350 Max Daily Impressions
- Platinum Tier (£19.95/month) – 7 Track Uploads / 1000 Max Daily Impressions
The daily impressions amount is a maximum limit and not a guaranteed figure. An artist’s total impressions per day may fluctuate based on the number of active users on our mobile app.
We advise artists to start on the Free Tier and upgrade as they begin to consistently reach their daily impressions limit or wish to upload additional tracks to their profile.
